Dermato-oncology

Micrographic surgery, also referred to as dermatologic oncology, is a subspecialty of dermatology that focusses on the identification, diagnosis, and surgical excision of cancers that affect the skin, mucous membranes around it, cutaneous appendages, hair, nails, and subcutaneous tissue. If melanoma is detected at an early stage, surgery can be the only course of action required. This type of surgery is often demonstrated by a dermatologist while you are still conscious during a consultation. This procedure is carried out by the dermatologist, who removes any remaining tumours (after the skin biopsy).
